Lucius Pomerantz is an orthopedic surgeon.
A BJJ black belt.
A former MMA fighter who trains with Jocko Willink and Dean Lister.
This guy runs towards challenges for a living.
So I asked him:
Why do some people dive into challenges while others sprint the other way?
His answer?
One word…
Ego.
Ego wants to look good.
A growth mindset wants to get good.
They can’t coexist.
The person who runs from challenges is protecting their ego.
Don’t look foolish.
Don’t tap.
Don’t be the worst one in the room.
So they avoid the very thing that would make them better.
The person who runs toward it?
They’ve made peace with looking bad on the way to getting good.
What hits hardest:
Every BJJ black belt was once a spazzy white belt getting smashed by everyone.
They didn’t quit because their ego got bruised.
They showed up.
Got tapped.
Kept coming back.
That’s the whole game.
Leave your shoes and ego at the door.
Run toward it.
Joe
